Short story of Stephen Hawking
"My goal is a
complete understanding of the universe, why
it is as it is and why it exists at all." ----Stephen Hawking.
Stephen William Hawking was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author, who was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the university of cambridge.Stephen William Hawking was born on 8th January 1942 (exactly300 years after the death of Galileo) in Oxford, England. His father,a well-known researcher in tropical medicine, urged his son to seek a career in medicine, but Stephen found biology and medicine were not exact enough. Therefore, he turned to the study of mathematics and physics. The onset of Hawking's graduate education at Cambridge marked a turning point in his life. It was then that he embarked upon the formal study of cosmology, which focused his study. And it was then that he was first stricken with LOU GEHRIG's disease, a weakening disease of the nervous and muscular system that eventually led to his total confinement in a wheel chair. At Cambridge his talents were recognized, and he was encouraged to carry on his studies despite his growing Physical disabilities.

Hawking had a rare early-onset slow-progressing
form of motor neurone disease (also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
“ALS” or Lou Gehrig’s disease) that gradually paralysed him over the decades.
Even after the loss of his speech, he was still able to communicate through a
speech-generating device, initially through use of a hand-held switch, and
eventually by using a single cheek muscle.Even though he was physically
disabled,he never stopped his perseverance over physics.Stephen Hawking was
one of the most gifted and most famous scientists of the last fifty years. His
science demonstrated a blend of technical ability and intuition.
Hawking’s best-known results concern black holes. His earliest work was on
singularities in general relativity, what became known as the Hawking-Penrose
theorems. His discovery of Hawking radiation was a landmark result
that fundamentally changed our understanding of black holes. Hawking had
a remarkable life story, some of which was represented in the movie The
Theory of Everything. Hawking had a playful spirit, which served him well
and helped him to connect with the general public. Hawking’s most famous book is A
BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME. Among physicists and mathematicians, his
book with ELLIS, the large scale
structure of space time is
a true classic, and still a great place to learn the mathematics of general
relativity.Hawking died at his home in cambridge,england,14th march 2018.Even
though he passed away everyone remembers him as the greatest mind of the
generation.
